What to wear?

It seems like there was a discussion going on in the blogosphere about swim diapers sometime last year. I don't want to buy disposables because they are so expensive. We leave for Florida in less than 4 weeks (yippee!) so I picked up a couple of non-disposable swim diapers. Who has used these? Do they work just as well? We are staying at a very nice resort in Orlando and I would hate for the pool to be shut down because my son isn't wearing a good diaper.

What resort are you staying at? We were just there the end of January. It was wonderful. Disposibles are the only ones I ever used for my kids and when I was running my daycare.

well, I didn't even know they existed. Thanks for the heads-up.

we've used various cloth swim diapers and some work way better than others. i'm not sure of brand names but the type that worked the best for chloe had an extra tight mesh liner on the inside. it also has ties and velcro to fit snugly and keep her fluids from leaking out.

when chloe was under a year the cloth swim diapers from target worked great on her. they even had matching swimmy tops so most people just thought her diaper was a swim bottom.

what brand did you buy for owen? where'd you buy them from?

Doesn't the pee leak out of them all. Isn't it about holding the ya know in them?

Alicia,
I bought them at Target - so I hope they work for Owen as well as they did for Chloe. What brand did you use after she turned a year?

Becky,
We are staying at the Orange Lake Resort about a mile from Disney. It's the most beautiful resort I have ever seen. There is a huge water park and several golf courses right on the property.

Stephanie and Amanda,
As far I understand, they hold just like a disposable would. I'm not concerned about the pee anyway. I mean, seriously. Hundreds of kids pee in the pool on purpose all the time. They aren't going to shut the pool down for that.

Hi Kelly,
You'll have to let me know how the cloth swim diaper works. We just made plans to go to Florida two weeks after you.

Since it's not so easy for me to get out of the house, my mother-in-law picked the swimsuits up for me. She got the Target Circo brand swim tops, trunks for Evan, skirt for Molly, and hats with 50+ UV protection. They came in little plastic pouches. It doesn't actually say "swim diaper" on it so I don't know if she got the right thing. The cloth lining on the inside is so thin that I don't see how it could really hold any pee (although, like you, I'm not all that concerned about the pee). What exactly did you get? Is it the same thing I have?

Gina,
I saw exactly what your mom-in-law picked out. I almost bought that too, but Ben found a different bathing suit he liked. The swim diapers are sold in the exact same spot as the suits you got and also come in pouches. It is made by Circo and says "swim diaper" right on the package. I'll be happy to let you know how they work. We may be in a pool this weekend so I'll be happy to let you know how they work out. Who are you going to Florida with? Who are you staying with? I bet you're thrilled to get out of the cold!

We're staying at the Regal Palms Resort and Spa. It's 10 miles from Disney. We're going with Steve's brother, his wife, and their 21-month old. It all came about rather quickly. We weren't planning to go anywhere but then found a last minute deal and figured "Why not?"
