Words I Hate

Sometimes I am surprised by what comes out of my own mouth. It is amazing how your thoughts can be affected by language that you hear in your work place or social circle. There are several words that I HATE to hear Christian women use. It's not that they are necessarily wrong, I just personally find them distasteful and not at all feminine. I'm sure we each have our own ideas of what is appropriate and what is not. In my opinion, the following words are not ones I would choose to use:
suck
frickin'
pissed
god
any curse word
I'm sure there are others, but these are the ones that come to my mind. My husband has a word that he hates and asks me not to use: "preggo." I know a lot of people use that word when referring to a pregnant woman. Many of you are thinking, "What?!?! What's wrong with that?!?!" He says it's coarse language and he just doesn't like it.
What about you? Are there any not-so-obvious-to-others words that you dislike?

I say some less-than-ladylike words, but I'm working on changing. It took me about 10 years to break the habit of swearing so it might take me as long to stop saying "crap" and "suck". It helps that I sub because I can not use them in classrooms, but it's hard.

i dislike the phrase "shut up". it's banned from our house!

Shut up is one I struggle with but I've gotten better since having kids. It got my attention when I heard Ethan say shut up after I said it!
I hate "preggo" or "preggars" too. It just annoys me to death!

All the ones you listed are ones I don't like . . . as well as the ones the other ladies mentioned! My hubby doesn't like "preggo" either. It's not one I use often anyway, and while he doesn't necessarily think it's a "bad" word, he just thinks it sounds silly. I also don't like the word "butt"--I don't know why, really, I just think "bum" sounds better. :)

I have always thought the word "armpit" is SO disgusting. I can't stand it. I say underarm. :)

I can't stand it when someone is trying to act British and they throw in a "bloody". This is a seriously offensive word in England.

I just really hate bad grammer. I am not talking about just a slip of the tounge bad grammer, but the kind where you have to stop and ask the person to repeat themselves.

"CRAP" is another one you can add to the list--and I agree with the ones you already have listed.

I have to say "fart", "butt" and "stupid" are some of the words I don't like. Along with the words on your list.

Pam said "fart" and now I can't stop laughing. I am so juvenile.

"Crap" was the first word that came to my mind to add to your list. I also think "butt" could be substituted for other words.

i'm not sure why, but i found it extremely easy to stop saying certain "christian swear words" when connor was born. i made up phrases that sound a lot better coming out of his mouth and i stole some gems from my uncle/cousins. when i get hurt i say ouchie va vava, when i mess up i say stinkin' blinkin'. connor now has that as a habit which i don't mind at all.

my sister on the other hand can't stand to hear the words blouse and slacks....seriously, it's hilarious. it's like fingernails on a chalkboard to her and when we're trying to bug her we start whispering them.

I feel the same way about the word "crap." Unfortunately it's one of those words I struggle giving up. It comes out of my mouth all too easily, but I'm working on it.
Christina,
I can TOTALLY relate to your sister's annoyance with blouse and slacks. I know it's weird, but I hate those words too! There is somebody out there who understands me! I love it! I also HATE the word sneakers.

I agree, I don't like butt, fart, crap, sucks, danget, I had a pastor that called this "Baptist Cussing" and encouraged us not to use them. I also don't like "preggo" just say pregnant. I think it just sounds rude or something.

It irritates me when people say "Youz guyz". I do use the word 'crap', but generally when I'm by myself and upset at something I did. I do not like it when people use the word "piss" or "suck"; in particular, I think it sounds very unfeminine and crass when women use these words. I think there are plenty of other words that can be used instead of these.
In regards to use of the English language, I think my biggest irritation is terrible spelling and grammar. For instance, I went to Kroger tonight and there was a lighted sign outside of the store that was advertising the sale of a "boquet of flowers". If you're a business, and you are going to advertise, please spell correctly for Pete's sake!!
People often missuse words like "who's" (instead of 'whose') and "your" (instead of you're)...these things bug me.

Sarah,
I'm sure I mess up "who's" and "whose". But I certainly know when to use "your" and "you're" and that one gets screwed up all the time! It bugs me too! I also don't like it when people mix up "hear" and "here". Even though I am not great with the English language by any stretch of the immagination, really poor grammar and spelling is annoying. It also bugs me when there are typos on church bulletins. Our church is pretty good about that normally, but a few weeks ago there was a misspelled word on the main screen. Not good!
