A New Family Tradition

Tonight our little family did something we've been planning for weeks. Owen talked about it all day. We made popcorn and chocolate milk, loaded up in the van, cranked up the Christmas music and drove around looking at Christmas lights. It was such a delightful time with our family and it didn't cost a penny. As Ben and I have discussed our best childhood memories we have come to the realization that the most treasured ones didn't cost anything. We had so much fun tonight and I expect this will become our yearly tradition.
A family in our neighborhood goes all out each year for the holidays. They even dress up as Santa and Mrs. Claus and let children sit on Santa's lap. They pass out candy canes and give rides on a makeshift train. Even though we don't teach Santa in our home we thought it would still be fun to check it out. Owen wasn't too excited about it at first. I talked with Mrs. Claus and she said they do it as a service to families who don't want to spend $35 taking their kids to the mall to see Santa. They are a very sweet couple. I think we are taking Owen back on Tuesday for a train ride around the neighborhood.

"Who are YOU?"
Mr. & Mrs. Claus
"Well, you're not so bad. You did give me a candy cane and are letting me ring your bells."
Love the festivity!
I sure was glad we beat this crowd of people!

I see from the first picture that Santa freaked the bajeebers out of him! Not funny, but it kind of is...
