Recently the seventh grade class at our school has been begging us to have them over for a class party. I am not sure why they think it is so cool to hang out with their teachers, but I think it is sweet.
Anyhow, my husband went ahead and planned the party for tomorrow, May 5th. He originally told me he thought we could have them over from 3:00 to 10:00. My reaction was something like, "ARE YOU CRAZY! 7 HOURS! WE SEE THESE KIDS ALL WEEK, DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH OF OUR WEEKEND 7 HOURS IS?!?!" Ben said something like, "really? You think that is a long time?" He said he would change it.
A couple of days ago I saw the seventh graders coming out of Ben's classroom with a flyer and talking excitedly about their party. I asked to see the flyer and read that the party is from 4:00 - 10:00. Whew, thank goodness it is only six hours now! Do you sense my sarcasm? Actually I am not upset, I think it is kind of funny. The kids are thrilled! We plan to have a cookout, go to the park and play some games, and come home to play some board games. In the meantime, pray for my sanity. I mean seriously, the girls are one thing - but six hours of junior high boys?!?

Hey Kelly! Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog! I told Dana and Tim hey for you and I actually do remember you! Hope you have fun with those 7th graders. . . I understand wanting to have a little freedom during the weekend.
Eek! I totally agree . . . when I was a middle school teacher those kiddos always wanted to come over to my apartment. So how did the party go?
Alicia,
The party was a blast! When they first arrived we took them to the park around the corner from our house for an organized game of baseball - my team won. Then we came back to our house and played Catch Phrase and had a cook-out. We ate in our basement around two large tables - in a circle, like a real family. It was a lot of fun. Then we played tennis and came back to the house for a movie. The first person arrived at 3:45 and the last person left at 11:00. I think we may plan another one for our eighth grade students.
