Have you ever had a job where you were actually honored and considered yourself privileged to be called an employee? That's how I feel right now.
This week I started a new job teaching at Whitefield Academy. It is an impressive college prepatory school here in Louisville. Check it out at www.whitefield.org
I was offered the job a few weeks ago and initially turned it down for various reasons. I didn't have peace about my decision and last week the high school principal called me out of the blue. I decided that if they still wanted me, I would take the job. It is totally of the Lord that they chose me over their other applicants. I am teaching high school math: Algebra I, Algebra II, and a Senior Math Survey course.
My first week, like the beginning of all school years, has been quite busy with little sleep. The year began the second week of August so I feel a bit behind coming in several weeks after the rest of the staff. The previous teacher resigned a couple of weeks into the school year.
There are about 750 students and 80 staff members in this Christian school. The building itself is huge - I still can't find my way around. I got lost today trying to find the athletic department. I just discovered today where my student's lockers are.
I am so thankful that the Lord has given me the opportunity to teach here. I never dreamed I would be able to find a teaching job so late in the year - it is certainly God's doing! I now have insurance and a great benefit package. Over the last few weeks I have been searching for a job. I didn't realize how many jobs required you to work weekends, nights, and holidays (or during holiday times - like the day after Thanksgiving). I am so thankful to be back on a teacher's schedule - no weekends, no holidays, paid vacations, spring break, etc. Don't be fooled, however. All of you teachers out there would agree that teaching is no walk in the park. There is a TON of take home work during those breaks from school.
At any rate, I am praising the Lord for this position at Whitefield Academy. I am thrilled to be using my gift of teaching again. It feels GREAT to be back in the classroom!

Praise the LORD!!
Answers to many prayers!
Stacey,
You need to post something on your blog so I can hear how you're doing and see pictures of your kids.
Hey Kel, I put a picture up.....let me know if you can find it (I'm a dunce and this stuff, y'know?!)
Sorry to tell you Stacey,
I still can't see your picture. :(
That is SO Great! I'm very excited for you and I hope you enjoy the school. I think that Shannon Collop taught there for a little bit, and a guy from our small group was a PE teacher there (I think). Anyways, how are you liking The Ville? Have you visited any churches you like?
Katie,
Yes this is the school Shannon taught at. She and I have talked about her experience here. Who is the PE teacher you know?
We like Louisville alright, though I hate the traffic! And it rains way too much! We haven't decided on a church yet. We have visited Clifton, Highview, Immanual, Crescent Hill (won't go back there), and Shawnee (that's out too). We shall see. I thought looking for a church would be kind of fun, but the fun is over. I am ready to get plugged in. Teaching here has helped me get somewhat plugged. I am on my lunch break and I'm starving so I better run!
Stacey,
It worked earlier, but now it's not. It doesn't even say "terrian family" anymore. What's up with that?
kelly~ I think what happened was that when I FIRST opened a blog so I could post on YOURS, I never really started mine. Today when I posted that pic, I started a *different* one (not on purpose--just because I'm so clueless ;) ).
SOOOOOOooooo, it was under a different username. Does that make sense? See how my first comment to your post says, "terrian said...." and then my next comment says, "the terrian family". If you click on "terrian", you'll go to the blog I never really put anything on. If you go to "the terrian family", I *think* it will lead you to the blog w/ the pic.
You should really think of sending me your email address so I don't hog up your comment space!! :)
