This morning as I was getting ready for school, I heard on the news that there has been a diagnosis of Mumps here in mid-Michigan. Furthermore, they reported that it is spreading. I thought this bit of information would be interesting to you all since we just had the discussion on whether or not vaccinations were more helpful than hurtful. I have to say, that if I were a mom, I would be glad to have my child vaccinated!

Interestingly enough, I was just doing a little research on this topic yesterday, (the immunization one, that is) and apparently, women who have had mumps may have a lower risk of having ovarian cancer. I thought that was kind of interesting.
I was vaccinated, but unfortunately, the vaccine's effect has probably worn off by the time we reach this age. Stay away from bumpy faced persons! :)
grrrrrrrrrr. it's stuff like this that angers me about parents who don't vaccinate their kiddos. children's immune systems are too weak and fragile to play around with diseases like mumps and polio!
Sounds like there are some cases here in WI as well! Yikes! The news last night said to not run out and get your kids vaccinated or whatever; they wanted to make sure that there was enough of the vaccine for the people who really need it. Not sure who that would be! Hopefully there won't be an empidemic!
I am not a mom right now but I am thankful that my mom had me vaccinated. I work with the public and come in contact with lots of people. I am thankful my mom had us vaccinated. I would be in a world of hurt!!
I live in Rockford, IL and this morning on the news they said there have been about a dozen or so right here in our town diagnosed with it!
I called my pediatrician just to make sure my kiddo's were ok and he said everything is fine and up to date. Thank God! He also said that the kids that have had the vaccinations within the last few years aren't the ones to worry about...it is us parents, whose vaccinations are "ancient" that should watch out for the symptoms! WOW!
Like Jenny said...Stay away from bumpy faced persons!
I was teasing dad about having mumps 'cause his face is HUGE but it's huge in his sinuses, not his salivary glands. Thankfully, mumps isn't life threatening, and any serious side effects are extremely rare. (but I still don't want the nasty stuff, that's for sure!! It lasts 2 WEEKS!!)
I VACCINATE TOO!!! Great choice..I just asked for mercury-free ones..no prob. the nurse said. All is well.
