One thing that really bothers me is how complacent Christians can be - including myself. We are good at complaining about the world and yet never getting involved to change it. Part of the problem is that we are sometimes so secluded that we don't even know what is going on. I always appreciate preachers/speakers who address current issues and challenge believers to act.
This week Rosie O'Donnell in her new role on ABC's "The View" made the following comment. "Radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam in a country like America where we have separation of church and state." I did not hear her say this live because I don't watch "The View." Bill O'Reilly brought it to my attention and then I saw the clip. I have to say I was pretty irritated. Rosie is a funny person, generous human being, great advocate for children, and a raging liberal. I believe she has influenced many Americans into accepting the idea of homosexual adoption and marriage. Why not? She seems nice. It is sometimes hard to watch celebrities like Ellen, Rosie, or Oprah. They are fun and entertaining. Yet I believe that the more we allow them to entertain us, the more we accept their philosophies and perspectives. I am not saying that we should never watch these types of shows. In some regard I think we ought to be culturally relevant. However, we need to know when enough is enough. I personally think Rosie was out of line this week with her remark toward Christianity.
Think about it - if Rosie had made a negative comment about a minority group - the nation would be in an uproar demanding an apology. Yet since Christianity is seemingly in the majority, the comments are okay? I do not know exactly how Rosie would define a "radical Christian." But I certainly have not read in the papers lately of any Christian groups blowing up trains or flying into buildings in the name of Jesus Christ. I, like many other NBBC graduates, participated in a trip to New York after 9/11. We went to share the good news of Jesus Christ and offer hope through Him. We didn't go to attack anybody in the name of our god. Yet, somehow we belong in the same boat? I don't think so. Rosie needs to be educated.
Today I sent a letter to ABC voicing my concerns about O'Donnell's comments. I guarantee that there would have been a public apology had she made a derogatory comment about black Americans or homosexuals.
If you want to let ABC know that you don't appreciate Rosie's remark, go to www.afa.net The American Family Association is a great tool to stay on top of current issues in America.

Rosie is a poison disguised as a happy, tolerant human.
thanks again.

Shyla,
Thanks for your comment! I am glad that you care enough to get involved. Do you get emails from the AFA? They are super helpful at keeping you updated on what is going on - especially for people like me who don't watch T.V. If you're not on their mailing list and want to be, let me know.
kelly, i sent an email as soon as i read your post. i didn't see the view either, but i'm not surprised. shy is right. thanks for passing this along.
