Busy

While I haven't been good about posting lately, I have been trying to stay current on all of your blogs. It sure seems like we have been busy these last few weeks.
Last week I started my second job - third if you count my Mary Kay business. Thankfully this job is from home, but unfortunately, it is taking up WAY more time than I anticipated. An elderly man hired me to type his work for him. I pick up the documents, type them from home and email them back to him. It's a nice set up, but we are still working out the kinks. I am trying to be better about prioritizing my time between my wifing, mothering, and my job outside the home (not to mention the time I need for reading, cooking, cleaning, church, soul group, etc). All of these tasks are part of the reason why I have not been blogging much in recent days.
I do my best to save and make money. I am constantly checking out store ads to find the best deals, clipping coupons, and looking for sales. In my efforts to financially contribute to our family I took this typing job without even consulting my husband. He reminded me of this a couple of days after I started. He was surprised I neglected to talk to him about the job opportunity before I accepted it. When he mentioned it to me I didn't know what to say. I had no excuse. It honestly never even crossed my mind to talk to him about it, which is really weird because we discuss EVERYTHING!!! My time is more precious to Ben than any amount of money I might earn. I am hoping that I can balance my time efficiently. If not, this second job will have to go. In the mean time, you may be seeing less posts on this blog.
Next week Owen and I will be flying to Michigan. I am not especially excited about flying with a baby, but I am definitely excited about getting there in 3 hours! Ben will be joining us 4 days later. The Lord has worked it out for us to be there a total of 11 days (Ben will be there for 7)! I am very thankful for this extended visit because it will probably be the last time we are in Michigan until December. This trip is extra special because we will be meeting our newest nephew (Kim's baby - not yet born) and Owen will be meeting his great-grandparents from Houghton, Michigan. Plus, I will be attending my 10 year class reunion. Boy, does time fly.
We are also looking forward to being with our Immanuel family on Sunday, June 22. Ben will be preaching during the morning service and afterward we get to spend the day at the Luter's pool with all of our friends! Let's pray we have some beautiful weather that day!
Ben is taking a block course this week. He is in class all day and then goes to work until late into the night. He sure is a hard worker. He is also doing some work on our yukon since it is currently not running. This leaves us with one car - the one without air condition. Did I mention that it's been in the mid 90's and super humid in Kentucky? I honestly can't complain. Nothing can be worse than last summer. I was pregnant, 60 pounds heavier than normal and we didn't have a/c in the car last summer either. We survived.
While we are certainly busy, we always find time to be with our little guy, Owen. Ben and I each get a lot of one-on-one time with him which I am very grateful for. His third tooth is coming in and his hair is getting pretty thick. All of that hair makes him look more like a little boy than a baby. He babbles a lot likes to say 'bababbaba' over and over. His current favorites are cheerios and graham crackers. He just had his 9 month checkup where we discovered that he is in the 75th percentile for height and 35th percentile for weight. I had to laugh when the nurse told us that. He is not a chubby baby, but he certainly isn't skinny-scrawny either. He is just long and lean like his daddy. And believe me, he eats a lot too, also like his Daddy (well, I suppose he may get this from his mommy too). He is such a fun little boy. I am so thankful for his cheerful personality. He laughs and smiles ALL the time! Ben is by far his best friend. I know that little boys often want to be "daddy's boy" but I didn't expect it to happen this young. Owen just lights up when Ben walks into the room. Lately he will even cry for Ben over me! It honestly doesn't bother me. They have such a special relationship and are both crazy about each other!
Okay, that's enough time on-line. I have to get back to work. Thanks for checking in on us.

I am so happy for you that you get to come and see your soon-to-be-born nephew! You and Ben are both hard workers and I hope you enjoy your time here in MI! See you soon!

flying is great ! and pretty easy with kids :) I will fly everywhere instead of driving, just have to figure out were the landing strip could go in my back yard, hmmmm ok impossible but fun to dream. piece of cake really, just pack carry-on light (backpack), simple stroller. with babies you can bring on a small jar of baby food and powder formula is not nursing. they provide warm water for bottle and juice/water for sippy cups. also the plus is you are able to board early to get yourself situated, just put everything at your feet (bag) strollers you can bring right up to door and then will be placed right there when you get off :) both of our kids flew early in life and did fine !

I'm happy you all get a chance to go on vacation. I took the boys at a young age and they did fine. I went the Hawaii and the old ladies on the plane will ask if you need to go to the restroom they will hold the babies. Enjoy yourself's. (when will be cool enough to be added to your friend list LOL)

Hope your flight goes well. I've had great experiences and down right awful times flying with babies, so I'll be praying for you! And I completely understand the time/money dilemma.

kelly - i recently took a second job, working from home. the income was more than double what i made working full time. but in the end, the stress on me and our family wasn't worth it. do we miss the extra money, yes! but, i'm able to work part-time and contribute to our family's income. in the end, its worth it.

PS - the glupkers have been family friends since i was little. my mom and i were just saying yesterday how much we admire that family. its neat to see how you not only fit in, but compliment ben. thanks for being a great wife for him!
